Max Sherwin is a Junior Designer here at Spinning Clock who joined as an apprentice just over a year ago. The past year has been a challenge and a joy for him encompassing wonders from Virtual Reality to paper horses. But let’s hear it from the man himself:
“It’s been a year since I first arrived at the Spinning Clock offices and started my work experience, and what a year it has been…
It all started from humble beginnings, joining a video shoot in a hospital. The labour screams on the maternity ward didn’t put me off, however, and I went on to learn so much about the industry. After a mere two months of work experience I felt like I had learned so much. Shortly after, much to my surprise, Spinning Clock offered me an apprenticeship position which still blows my mind to this day.
My time working as an apprentice was hugely beneficial, and my goodness me have I learned a lot! Cinema 4D and After Effects are two of my personal favourites. Also VR is amazing, any chance I get to show somebody some of my favourite demos, I will!
It’s been such a crazy year in which I’ve got to work with some mind-bogglingly huge clients and have learned so much about all the different tools and software. The multi-talented team here at the company have helped teach me about all the goings-on in the creative sector; you couldn’t ask to work with a nicer group of people.
There are some negative stories floating around about apprenticeships, but I can wholeheartedly say that I have benefited from all of this so much.
So which projects have I been involved with?
Here are a few examples:
Animated elements for a Disney Junior experiential event to promote the launch of The Lion Guard.
Rotoscoped elements for Disney Junior interactive experiences based on Miles from Tomorrow and Sofia the First.
And let us not forget the flying paper horse prototype saga… I mean I’d like to forget it but my colleagues won’t let me.
Also I made a 3D carrot recently for inclusion in a high profile 3D game… I’m proud of my carrot.
Overall it’s been an amazing year here at Spinning Clock and I’m so excited to see what the future holds here!”
